A Excessive Court docket in Asaba, Delta State, has sentenced a 35-year-old man, Idris Hassan, to life imprisonment for raping a minor.

He allegedly had carnal information of the eight-year-old on August 22, 2022.
The prosecution, led by the Director of the Unit for Sexual Offences, Home Violence and Baby Rights within the Delta State Ministry of Justice, Ms. Patricia Akamagwuna, referred to as six witnesses and supplied to plead responsible to the accused.
The prosecution instructed the courtroom that the survivor was at house along with her two older siblings when the accused, who was their neighbor’s doorman, lured her with biscuits.
“When she arrived, the accused compelled her. A neighbor of the survivor caught him within the act and he was subsequently arrested by members of the Police ‘B’ Division, Asaba,” she defined.
In his protection, Hassan denied the accusation and retracted his confession stating that there was no sexual contact between him and the survivor.
Delivering his judgment, Justice Onome Marshal-Umukoro held that the prosecution had proved their case past affordable doubt.
The courtroom then convicted and sentenced the accused to life imprisonment.
Equally, one other Excessive Court docket in Kwale sentenced one other rapist to eight years in jail.
